I Bear Your Name

I bear your name
At least, I did
It flows through me still
It flows

From me

I bear her name
She is gone
You are not
But I said goodbye
In silence
In anger
In a letter
Letters

Until you stopped calling
My name
My number
No longer in service
Disconnected

And there was peace
In the pieces
Of me that knew better

I guess that’s the difference
I knew
Everybody knew
I know
Better

I know where my passion is rooted
It is deep like my temper
And the deep brown of my eyes
It cannot be denied

So I let it rise
Up toward the sun
Stretching through branches
As the tree
Leaves
